Smile and the World Smiles Back
A group of cheery-faced Fixers have demonstrated the key to success is a smile with an event aiming to boost community spirit in the valleys.
Lowri Suter (19) and her team from Ebbw Vale feel people are ‘stuck in a rut’ with high unemployment in the town.
The 'Show Your Teeth in Town' event, which happened on Friday 30th August, was a chance for people to briefly forget life’s worries and smile to see the brighter side of the community.
‘We feel that there's a lot of negativity in our town, so we thought it was a nice idea to get people smiling.
‘We were interested in asking people what made them happy and what their views on young people in the community were.
‘We hope we’ve made folks realise that it’s not all bad, there are good things in our town as well.’
The team also designed T-shirts and wristbands in a bid to raise as much awareness as possible with everyone from pensioners to police officers getting involved.
Lowri, who does volunteers in a youth club, is pleased with their Fix.
‘It was a fantastic day and something we couldn’t have done without the help of Fixers.
‘The ideal scenario for us is to make the rest of Britain realise Ebbw Vale isn’t such a bad place and we are a resilient community.
‘One thing I have learnt on this project is one person or a small group can make a difference.’
