Make Young People Count

The problems facing young people today are significant game-changers.

800,000 aged between 18 and 25 are not in education, employment or training

Over half of those seeking help with homelessness are under 25

7 in 10 young people have been bullied online

Between 2010 and 2016 £387 million was cut from youth services, 3,653 youth work jobs have been lost and 603 youth centres closed.

Now more than ever young people need our help.

Who We Are

Fixers is a national charity championing the potential of young people. We empower them to transform their lives through positive social action.

We believe young people count. They have the passion and enthusiasm needed to make the world a better place and by getting involved in social action they can create profound change – for themselves and for society.

Since 2008 we have worked with over 23,000 young people, the majority of whom are vulnerable or marginalized and face many different issues including exploitation, sexting, mental health, knife crime, drug use, poverty and homelessness.

Our mission is to enable them to deliver a high impact campaign that not only builds their own sense of self belief but is influential in the lives of other people.

We need your support.

What We Do

We enable young people to re-engage with society and reach their full potential by:

  • Investing in them through mentoring.
  • Connecting them to support organisations who can help with presentation, leadership and social media skills.
  • Linking them with government agencies, PCCs, health services and local authorities.
  • Creating opportunities for them to speak in schools and youth clubs.
  • Amplifying their voices through digital platforms, conventional media and public events.

These steps help institutions understand how to address issues facing young people; enable peer-to-peer education and help them spread their message to thousands of others.

"Working with Fixers has become a really big part of my recovery, not only physically and mentally, but it has also recovered my ambition for the future and shown me that despite bad things happening to me there is so much that can come from it. I can use my experience to be an advocate for mental health and it will ultimately lead to positive opportunities"

Crystal Rose Turner-Brightman, aged 17 – PTSD survivor

The Difference We Make

Benefit to young people

After working with Fixers 59% of young people are more likely to find employment; 36% experienced improved mental health and wellbeing and 82% felt they had a greater influence over others.

68% felt more confident and believed they could make a contribution towards society.

We reach young people with limited access to opportunities for social action but who have the potential to gain the most.

Benefit to society

  • Our work gives communities a better understanding of young people.
  • Improves government return on investment because decisions are informed by young people
  • Young people become valued and respected in their communities
