Campaign: | Promoting positive body image |
Young people can feel they have to look a certain way and if they aren’t happy with their appearance this can lead to low self-esteem, low confidence and even depression.
Pressures relating to body image can come from all sorts of places – the media, friends and in some cases family.
I’m generally quite a confident person but when I take off my make-up I feel the complete opposite, sometimes finding it hard to make eye contact.
I want to encourage young people to realise that everyone is beautiful and they don’t have to hide behind a mask – there really is no such thing as perfect.
With the help of Fixers my team and I want to create a film to accompany a fashion show.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:
Taylor McCarthy | Zoe Johnson |
Talia Hurn | Deena Hayward |
Danielle Roberts | William Clement |
Holly Jeffrey | Becky Smith |
Tamara Robinson |
December 2013
My team and I took part in an event at Bron Afon Community Housing in Cwmbran on 3rd December.
There were around 100 people in the audience including young people and youth workers from Newport Youth Service, other Fixers and their families and representatives from Bron Afon and Charter Housing Associations.
Our film was screened and we held a fashion show but instead of dressing up in fancy clothes we wore plain outfits and cardboard boxes. On the boxes we wrote words describing our personalities, our dreams and our aspirations.
