Campaign: | To call for all children to be given the same opportunities regardless of where they were born |
I moved to the UK from Cameroon when I was five. I can't remember life before I came here and always assumed that I would have the same opportunities as my friends.
I couldn't wait to go to university and accepted an offer to study in Manchester.
However a month before I was due to go, I received a letter which changed everything.
It said that because my immigrant status is classed as ‘limited leave to remain’, I was not eligible for student finance.
There was no way I could afford to go without a student loan and had to completely change my future plans.
I have made a film with Fixers to share my story and call for all children in the UK to be given the same opportunities, regardless of where they were born.
I would like to thank my fellow Fixer Shalima Koroma for helping me with this campaign.
