Campaign: | To help young people understand the Scottish referendum |
When it comes to the Scottish referendum, I think that young people can often feel excluded by the language used by politicians, and the lack of information geared towards us.
We’re not getting answers to the important questions despite the fact that young people can play a major part in this debate.
I joined up with fellow Fixer Cara Clinton and her group to tackle this topic. They set up about the referendum debate to offer young people a chance to learn about key issues.
I was invited to sit on the panel, along with Zara Kitson of the Scottish Green Party, Kyle Thornton, Chair of Scottish Youth Parliament, Ken Macintosh MSP and Amy-Leigh Wilson, a fellow member of the Cumbernauld YMCA-YWCA youth committee.
We discussed and put forward both sides of the debate to an audience of young people and answered their questions.
A film, which I am using as part of my campaign, was later made by Fixers covering our event and was shared on social media.
Sanctuary is the UK’s leading provider of care, housing and community services.
The not-for-profit organisation is backing our campaign and working in partnership with Fixers to help support young people across the country address the issues they want to fix.
With over 94,000 units of accommodation across Scotland and England, Sanctuary believe that building strong communities and inspiring people to make a real difference is as important as providing them with a home.
I am a member of Cumbernauld YMCA-YWCA, who support my Fixers campaign and helped organise the referendum debate.
