Campaign: | To help people better understand those with disabilities |
Each member of our group has a disability, but this doesn’t stop us from leading fulfilling lives.
Our disabilities don’t define us - our personalities do - and it’s our aim to ensure people understand that.
With Fixers, we want to give others an insight into what life is like with a disability.
We hope this will help them realise that we are just the same as everybody else and we don't want to be treated differently.
Here is a list of Fixers helping with this Fix:
Claire Smith | Juan Sanchez |
Alison Minnette | Nicky Menten |
Robert Hill | Rama Turay |
George Cary | Alex Savic |
Stanley Obanua | Elijah Lahai-Taylor |
Leslie Willis | Jared Wesley Willis |
Merton Council
The team at Merton Council have helped with our Fix. They run the ‘Your Shout’ group that we attend. Our support workers coordinated with Fixers to ensure our project progressed smoothly.
Act Too
Act Too have given their backing to our project. The organisation runs drama classes for people with disabilities. They came along to support us when we were filming our Fixers documentary.
May 2014
On Monday 12th May we launched our Fixers film at a screening event at the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon.
Around eighty people attended including our parents, carers and a representative from the local council. Students from South Thames College and Merton College were also in the audience, as were members of the High Path and All Saints day centres.
We received some really positive feedback.
‘A good film. I think the group should go to secondary and primary schools and tell the students they want to be heard and accepted.’
‘It’s inspirational to watch the film and see the courage these young people have.’
‘Great film and presentation. It was fantastic to see the young people being so positive and confident.’
‘What a brilliant show. It’s so important that able-bodied people respect disabled people.’
‘The film should be shown to as many people as possible to try to stop bullying.’
‘It was very informative. I enjoyed it and found it really interesting.’
