Campaign: | To encourage more young people in Wales to speak Welsh |
For me, the Welsh language is an important part of our culture and heritage in Wales.
Anybody can learn to speak Welsh and should feel comfortable using it in social situations.
But, my team and I think that young people are put off speaking the language socially because the Welsh they learn in school is formal, and not always relevant to their everyday lives.
This can mean they aren’t confident enough to attempt to speak Welsh outside of the classroom.
With Fixers, we’re working on a campaign to let young people know that there are places locally where they can test out their language skills – and they don’t need to worry about making mistakes!
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Rhys Thomas | Adam Kealey |
Lowri Roberts | Rebecca Hornby-Jones |

Conwy Children and Young People's Partnership
The team at the Conwy CYPP support our Fix. They helped by providing us with a place to meet.
Conwy Council
Nick Meakins, Youth Participation Officer at Conwy Council, has been particularly supportive of our project. He was instrumental in bringing the group together and helped organise places for us to meet.
Conwy Youth Council
The Youth Council have supported our campaign. We are all members of the Conwy Youth Council.
May 2014
With Fixers, we have created a poster and window sticker to be displayed in places like shops, restaurants and leisure centres that encourage young people to speak Welsh.
We hope it will identify the places others our age can go to test out their language skills - without having to worry about making mistakes!
You can see the poster here and the window sticker here.
We are planning to launch our campaign at the Conwy Festival of Youth.
It’s taking place on Saturday 17th May between 10am and 2pm on the Promenade.
