Campaign: | Help for young carers |
Caring for a loved one is not a decision that you have to think too long about. It’s automatic.
My younger brother has autism, which means I have to make sure he’s calm and understands things in the correct manner.
But I do feel there is a stigma associated with young carers as looking after your family isn’t something you talk about with other people.
With the help of Fixers, I want to raise awareness of just how hard others like myself actually work.
We want people to know it’s okay to be a young carer and it’s ok to talk about it.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:
Adam Slaughter
Belinda Riley
Brooke Hall
Christina Kelly
Deberah Curry
Hannah Cranson
Kerry Owen
Laura Heppell
Samantha Hopwood
Stacie Cox
Elizabeth Ashurst gave an interview for my broadcast item on ITV News Tyne Tees.
Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project
We are members of the youth project, and they have supported us with our Fix since it started.
Speaking about our campaign, Youth Development Coordinator Claire Gascoigne said:
'Working on the Fixers project has really helped the young people work together as a team and brought their confidence on.'
March 2014
Here is some feedback we've had about our Fixers project:
Penny Bowman, Durham University: 'Well done for raising this issue and helping people understand how many young carers work so hard to manage their own life as well as helping a family member.'
