Campaign: | To ensure young carers are getting the support they need |
I was ten years old when I started going to collect Mum’s prescriptions.
Her diabetes has caused problems with her feet so she uses a wheelchair. She can’t stand for long so isn’t able to do much around the house – that’s where I come in.
I also care for my sister. She has learning difficulties, autism and epilepsy.
In some ways I feel being a young carer means I’ve lost out on parts of my childhood, but I have gained life experiences.
With the help of Fixers I want to raise awareness of what it is to be a young carer.
I want to help teachers spot when someone has caring responsibilities at home and to reach out to others who may not recognise themselves as carers but who are in need of support.
I hope to do this by creating a short film to highlight the challenges young carers face.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:
Abby Haworth | Aiden Pulford |
Brian Edmonds | Charles Gooch |
Chris Dye | Clare Longstaff |
Daniel Leggett | Debbie Brett |
Emily Forder | Emma Hare |
Hannah Wright | Jack Farrow |
Martin Parkinson | Melissa Thompson |
Scarlett Blissett | Sophie Turner |
