Campaign: | To encourage better understanding of the Scottish Independence Referendum |
Thursday 18th September 2014 - the day of the Scottish Independence Referendum - will be a very important date in the UK’s history.
As the referendum gets closer, my group and I fear that many young people don't fully understand what it will mean to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
We feel that the information out there is not youth-friendly and full of political jargon which young people like myself don’t fully understand.
Cumbernauld, where I am from, is sometimes overlooked, so we want to make sure young people from here and across Scotland are able to vote with a clear understanding of the implications of either decision.
With the help of Fixers, we're holding a ‘Question Time’ style event, where we will invite 15 to 25-year-olds to quiz MSYPs and members from both sides of the argument.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Sanctuary is the UK’s leading provider of care, housing and community services.
The not-for-profit organisation is backing our campaign and working in partnership with Fixers to help support young people across the country address the issues they want to fix.
With over 94,000 units of accommodation across Scotland and England, Sanctuary believe that building strong communities and inspiring people to make a real difference is as important as providing them with a home.
All of the young people involved with the project are members of Cumbernauld YMCA-YWCA. The organisation is also supporting our Fix by helping to organise the event.
March 2014
We gave young people the chance to quiz political figures at our ‘Question Time’ style referendum debate.
Around sixty people attended the event held at Carronvale House in Stirlingshire on Friday 21st March.
The final panel line-up included Zara Kitson of the Scottish Green Party, Kyle Thornton, Chair of Scottish Youth Parliament, Ken Macintosh MSP and Amy-Leigh Wilson and Steven Murray, who are both members of the Cumbernauld YMCA-YWCA youth committee.
The event was hosted by Tam Baillie, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People.
