Being type 1 diabetic can be a pain, but the support I’ve been given and the new mentality I have since being diagnosed makes me feel it isn’t so bad.
For a disease that has many complications, it has, for me, brought with it many life-long skills that I will use in future years.
I joined a group to meet young people who were in a similar situation to me, and I expected to find people who had far better control of their diabetes than I did. I was wary and worried that I had perhaps been doing the wrong things, but the group supported me, and showed me that there is no such thing as a perfect diabetic.
We wanted to support others in much the same way, and so we created a website that allows diabetics to come together and talk about things that affect them.
My Fixers project has definitely been enlightening, as well as helping others, I have picked up some tips and tricks that will help me cope with my diabetes too.
