Campaign: To prevent abuse and neglect

When Croydon Youth Council conducted a survey of 600 young people asking them what issues they wanted to be tackled, the overwhelming response was for something to be done about abuse and neglect.

 

Following this, and with the help of Fixers, we decided to set up workshops to educate others on understanding what abuse and neglect is, how to handle it if they or someone they know is being abused, and where to go for support.

 

We also created wristbands to be handed out, with our slogan, ‘Reject Neglect, Reduce Abuse’ written across them, which were well received by our audiences.

 

We hope that by raising awareness and getting young people to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect, we can help to prevent it.

From a workshop that we held with 30 young people, 86% said that our campaign had increased their knowledge of neglect and abuse.

 

In the feedback - the young people said they would now know how to recognise a home in trouble, that they understand the services that are out there, the different forms of abuse, and where to go for help if they need it.
