Name: Nadia Clarke
Age: 21
Year of the Fix: 2013
Location: Halifax
Campaign: Encouraging support for disabled people

I am severely disabled, and have to use a wheelchair and communicate through a computer.

The disability benefits I receive allow me to do things that otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do – like leave my house, which wouldn't be possible without the funding which goes towards an aid and my wheelchair.

But new changes to the benefits I have received in the past mean I, and others, will have to go through regular assessments to determine the level of payment we receive.

I feel many disabled people are already struggling out there and need their voices heard.

I want to let the government know how people with disabilities benefit from this funding and that having to be put through an assessment again is quite stressful.

A documentary film is being created for my Fixers project to show politicians just how these changes affect people like me.

My aim is to get local Councillors and MPs talking about the issue, because there are a lot of people with disabilities afraid of losing the support they need to live their lives independently.
