Campaign: | Highlight realities of jobseekers' allowance |
Despite sending many applications to employers and hours of voluntary work, my friends and I are unemployed.
Because of this, we do receive Jobseekers' Allowance - a payment which is made every week to unemployed young people who are actively seeking work.
But this allowance is just not enough to live on. In fact, it is barely enough to survive.
While £56.80 sounds like a lot to some people, it is not enough to pay for all your bills, travel, food, and then still have some left over to travel to job interviews and seek work.
Many young people across the UK are stuck in this situation where they have not got enough money to do everything they need to do, not just to live a fulfilling life, but to survive day-to-day.
I'm creating a short documentary which follows the life of an unemployed young person to show other people the realities unemployed young people face. I hope it will encourage better support, both financial and otherwise, for the unemployed, and get them back into work.
