Campaign: | To help young people live independently |
I left school at 16, like any other teenager. But then I was kicked out of my home.
Immediately, I had to think on my feet and be independent. For years I lived in a tent, finding out many things without many resources or knowledge of how to live alone.
I never expected this to happen, and the problem was that while at school I was not taught anything about personal finances, how to find a job, or how to just live independently.
But then I was fostered, and I began teaching myself new skills. I started to build a website to help other young people who may find themselves in similar lonely situations.
Now I’m living on my own in Swindon, and want to continue to help other young people living alone to find their feet.
With Fixers, I am creating a magazine which will be distributed around Swindon, allowing people to learn life skills which they may not have been taught or developed in school.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Dakota Williams
Daniel Fallas
Jade Barret
I've done a lot of research into my project, both during and before my involvement with Fixers.
For more information on how to live independently, I have used the following groups for information and support:
Learn a Living - Website helping young people find work experience and apprenticeships
Connexions - connexions offering advice and support in work.
