I’ve had two bad experiences with social workers.
The first was when I was a teenager and I had to be taken into foster care.
Then, when I was a mother myself, there was the possibility that my own children might have to be taken into care (in the end, that didn’t happen).
On both occasions I felt the social workers didn’t listen properly to what I had to say.
Fixers has helped me make a film to get across the message that “Listening Is the Key”.
I’ve shown it to some trainee social workers and I think it gave them a different view of things. I hope they’ll remember the message as they go forward with their careers.
