Campaign: | To encourage professionals to be better at spotting the signs of abuse |
I grew up in a very strict household. My father was violent and my mum was emotionally controlling.
To many people on the outside, nothing seemed wrong, but I was the victim of abuse.
At first, even I thought it was normal, but as things got worse I knew it wasn’t.
I developed mental health issues such as depression and borderline personality disorder, which I still deal with today.
With Fixers, I’ve helped to create a short film encouraging teachers and other professionals to be better at spotting the signs of abuse in others.
Sometimes it can be difficult for young people to talk about their problems, but if they know someone is there for them it can make all the difference.
