We were a normal, happy family until our mum had a stroke in 2009. My sister Sandra and me were 13 and 11, and we became young carers.
Any type of task that seems so trivial like going to the shop, or quickly ringing up a doctor or going to get a prescription, became our responsibility.
Our Fixers project is aimed at encouraging young carers in London to look after themselves.
What we hope is that any young carers watching our film will feel encouraged and motivated to fulfil whatever it is that they want. We want them to understand that it’s very important to take care of themselves as well as their family.
I worked together with Sandra Ofori-Forbes on this Fix.
