Campaign: | To help the young unemployed to recognise their self-worth |
Because of my epileptic fits, I had to leave school early and was home tutored instead. Feeling isolated though, I lost all motivation and left education with no qualifications.
For the best part of three years, I stayed in bed. I didn’t feel there was any point in going out into the world and trying to achieve anything. Looking back now I can say I was definitely depressed. I had no self-worth.
A voluntary work scheme helped me to turn things around eventually, and I am now really enjoying being in full-time employment.
My Fixers project is about helping other young people who aren’t in education or employment to recognise their self-worth.
I hope to show that life isn’t as bleak as they may think. Volunteering, education, work, or just getting out into the community, can provide the motivation they need to want to do more.
