Campaign: to encourage people to express themselves creatively

Although I've never suffered from clinical depression myself, I've watched friends battle the cruel condition, and I was saddened and shocked when two young women took their own lives in Folkestone recently.

 

With Fixers, I've made a film to encourage people to reach out for help if they're feeling depressed, and to find ways to express their emotions creatively. 

 

I think that people still feel ashamed of themselves for having a mental health issue, some people don’t like to think that they have one, they keep it bottled up like it’s something that they should be ashamed of.

 

At some point in their life, everyone will suffer from some kind of mental illness. It’s just something that happens, whether that’s through someone dying, or you just don’t feel confident about yourself. It’s not something to be ashamed of – it’s something to be expressed.


I want people to know that it is ok to have a mental illness, and the most important thing is to seek help. But if you still don’t feel like you can tell anyone, do find another way to help yourself by expressing your emotions, either through singing or writing, acting or photography. Don’t just keep it inside and let it bubble away and break you down to the point where you hit a crisis.’
