Campaign: | To educate teens on what it's like to be transgender |
When I was 14, I realised I was transgender – I’d been wrongly born into a female body.
It meant I had to explain to all of my friends and family that I was going to transition to living as a boy, then I changed my name from Vicky to Matt and asked people to call me ‘he’ and not ‘she’.
When the news spread at school, a group of bullies started to regularly attack me for being transgender. It all came to a head one day when they all grouped together, calling me names and throwing things at me.
Now I want to help future transgender teens to avoid the kind of bullying I experienced, and I believe education is the best way to fight prejudice.
I’m working to educate schoolchildren about it means to be transgender, and the issues and challenges faced by teenagers like me - I believe that if people knew more, they’d be more understanding.
