I was badly bullied at school and it got so bad that I decided I needed to start afresh. I changed schools and while it was the best thing I could have done, it was a really unsettling time.
My mum was advised that getting a pet could help provide me with some stability and comfort.
Getting my kitten Nirvana was amazing, she quickly became my best friend. So I was utterly devastated when she passed away suddenly two years later.
There is such a stigma surrounding grieving for a pet. It is often dismissed as silly or stupid, but many people don’t understand how a pet can become part of the family.
When I finally did open up to my best friend, it was the best thing I could have done. I’ve made an animated film with Fixers to encourage other people in the same situation not to bottle up their feelings.
