Campaign: | To help young people deal with the loss of a loved one |
When my stepdad died, it really affected me. I was like a daughter to him and it came as a real shock.
I didn’t know how to deal with the pain so I tried to block it all out and I lost control.
I was taking drugs and drinking. I thought that everything would get better and it didn’t. I now realise I could have lost my home, my family and my child.
One thing which helped me to turn my life around was getting a job at a funeral directors.
By looking after people who have passed away, I feel as though I’m doing something for the families affected.
I would have wanted someone to have done the same for my stepdad.
With Fixers, I want to help young people, who have lost a loved one, to speak out.
They should know that they are not alone in their grief.
Sally Proctor is from the bereavement support service and supports my Fix. She agreed to be interviewed to appear in my TV film.
