I can sometimes find it a challenge to communicate with and understand people.
I need time to process information and to speak and I can struggle to follow if someone talks quickly without taking a breath or uses words that have more than one meaning.
I was also diagnosed with short-term memory loss as a child and although I’ve learnt to live with it, it can mean I occasionally forget having entire conversations.
My team and I are campaigning to raise awareness of what’s known as specific language impairment (SLI) which can make it hard for people to communicate.
We want to encourage others to be more understanding of those with communication needs, so that they can feel confident enough to ask for help.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Yvonne Brookes, Afasic Cymru
As a charity that represents children and young adults with speech, language and communication impairments, we would like to thank them for their support arranging meetings and transport, as well as providing a speech and language therapist.
