Campaign: | To improve the social lives of young disabled people through support groups |
It’s my view that many disabled young people feel isolated when they leave school.
Eleven years ago, some friends of mine came back from college and told me they felt depressed and lonely because they’d lost their network of friends.
I believe that a healthy social life can lead to integration and friendships, so we searched for a group in South Gloucestershire that would fit our needs. We couldn’t find one, so a couple of us got together and started our own.
Our group now has 35 members, all of whom have physical disabilities or a sensory impairment and three volunteers who don’t.
With Fixers, I want people to see the success of what we’ve done and to follow our example by supporting new groups and investing in those that already exist.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Natasha Hewlett | Laura Whittle |
Sacha Lapins | Kayleigh Malone |
Jade Heal | Karlis Lapins |
