Campaign: | To provide better support for the homeless in Fife |
I know people who’ve experienced homelessness and their stories can be hard to hear.
Sofa surfing or having to find accommodation for the night can be difficult, especially if young people feel nobody is there for them.
With Fixers, my team and I have helped to create a mobile phone app, which aims to provide better support for people in Fife who are currently homeless or are at risk of having nowhere to stay.
By giving them instant access to useful websites, maps displaying nearby hostels, and more, we hope it can change people’s lives for the better.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with this Fix:
Allen Lothian | Amy Goodfellow |
Ayesha Montador | Christopher Douse |
Danielle McGough | Dorian Drozdecki |
Emma Mountford | Jason McEwan |
Jordan Morris | Louise Davidson |
Michael Spence | Nikki Byrne |
Rachel Devine | Tanya Brown |
Link Living - Smartliving Project
The team at Link Living support our Fix. We’ve all been involved as volunteers on their Smartliving scheme and they’ve helped to facilitate our Fixers project throughout. They also assisted us at an event we held to preview our app.
January 2015
Before we launched our app, we presented it to around 30 people from across the public and voluntary sectors. The event took place at West Bridge Mill, Kirkcaldy, Fife on 17th October last year. You can read feedback from those who attended the preview below.
S. Golden, Fife Council: ‘Excellent concept and a holistic approach to help youngsters.’
Jo Anne Valentine, NHS Fife: ‘Great development and definitely the way of the future.’
Sandra Whamond, Skills Development Scotland: ‘Excellent idea! I have recently had experience helping a young person who was made homeless, and finding the right contact was difficult. I would definitely promote this to other young people. Well done!’
Gavin Rennie, Skills Development Scotland: ‘An excellent idea! I think something like this will work because the information has been put together by young people, based on the experiences of young people. It will also be a good source of information for practitioners supporting young people with accommodation issues. Good luck!’
Michaela Livingstone, Link Living: ‘I think this is a great way for people to get information and it covers so much. Well done!’
Zoe Holdsworth, Fife Council Housing Service Commissioning Team: ‘Well done everyone. All your hard work has paid off! Excellent app, the more accessible information that’s available to all potentially homeless people, the better.'
Ian Summers-Noble, Skills Development Scotland: ‘Looks excellent, especially as it’s by and for young people and therefore properly pitched.’
Our app is now live and is available in both Android and iTunes versions.
