Campaign: | To improve road safety in my community |
I live in a relatively small village outside Hartlepool.
While I love where I’m from, the roads here can become extremely busy at peak times and therefore dangerous for pedestrians like myself.
Far too often, I’ve seen young people almost get knocked down, either because they’re not paying attention or someone was driving too fast.
After arranging a meeting in November with local residents, parish council representatives and PCSOs, we decided it was important to do something about this issue.
Therefore, with the help of Fixers, my team and I are campaigning to encourage drivers using rural roads to slow down.
Hopefully our project can make a significant difference by reducing the number of incidents that occur and ultimately save lives.

Christine Carter is the secretary of the residents association and has attended meetings regarding the project. She has campaigned individually and acted as a voice for the community around road safety and speed awareness in the village before. Christine has also allowed us to use the Residents Association building to hold meetings.

November 2014
I would like to thank everybody who turned out to the road safety meeting on 18th November. There were around 14 people who attended, including local residents, parish councillors and PCSOs. We discussed the possibility of having a pelican crossing installed to make the roads safer for pedestrians and other measures to slow down vehicles. It was great to see people get involved in this discussion, because the topic affects so many.
