Campaign: | To encourage young people to engage more with their family history |
As a third generation Scottish Asian, I’m reminded of the struggle that my relatives endured coming to this country in search of a better life.
My grandad, who was born in India, often tells me stories from when he came to work as a bus conductor in Glasgow after making the 4,000 mile journey, much of it by foot.
Sadly, I fear that many of these personal histories are being lost, which is a real shame because if it wasn’t for these pioneering people, others like myself might not be enjoying the life we lead today.
Therefore, I’m working on a Fixers campaign to record some of these remarkable stories, while also urging young Asian Scots to remember the risks many of their elders took.
