Campaign: | To encourage others with mental health conditions to seek help |
I was 15 when I first developed a mental health problem.
At my worst, I was hearing voices. They were saying negative things and would give me commands to harm myself. I was absolutely petrified.
I thought that people were following me. It was really, really scary and I was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
What happened was that I didn’t seek help as early as I should have done. It meant I couldn’t move forward because I wasn’t getting the right support.
Now, I’m in a really good place. There were times when I felt I wouldn’t get through it, I’d never be able to hold down a job, or get married, but all these things have happened for me.
With Fixers, I want to show others with mental health conditions that recovery is possible.
I want to help them recognise when something isn’t quite right, so that they can ask for help and avoid a crisis.
('Hannah' is not my real name, because I would like to remain anonymous.)
Annie Jarvis, Development Officer at Peterborough and Fenland Mind, has supported my Fixers project. She agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast piece.
