Campaign: | To help visually impaired young people gain independence |
Taking the bus might seem like an easy thing to do for most, but for a partially-sighted or blind person, it's not that simple.
I was born with retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer, and as such have been left visually impaired.
When I want to use public transport such as buses, it can be very difficult for me to see which bus to get on or to even see it approach.
Bus drivers should be aware that some passengers require different needs to others and should know how to be of assistance if necessary.
For my Fixers project, I would like to create an audio resource that would advise drivers on how to deal with a visually-impaired person when it comes to flagging down buses or even just finding a seat.
I hope that my campaign will help blind or partially-sighted individuals gain more independence when it comes to travelling.
