Young Voices Creating Change
Fixers have joined other young campaigners for the official launch of a new coalition of youth social action groups.
Generation Change brings together 13 specialist youth social action organisations, who aim to drive up the number of young people actively involved in high-quality social action.
Fixer Yvonne Omini (24) attended the event held in London, and shared her experiences of fixing with Nick Hurd MP, Minister for Civil Society.
Yvonne, from Enfield, north London, explained how she wants young mums, like herself, not to be held back by their children but to strive to meet their goals.
'I believe it is not about how you start but how you finish. I want young mums to think outside the box and go for their goals,’ she explained.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Hurd stated the government is looking for ways to get more young people involved in social action.
'It's not just challenging young people to come up with better ideas for social action, but also the power of what it can do for young people.
‘In my experience it completely changes personal perception of what they can do.
‘While there are many excellent volunteering opportunities for young people around the country, we want more organisations to work together to offer more opportunities.’
