Fixer Kyle Bell (20) is creating a short film based on the experiences of his friend Tom (22) – who does not wish to reveal his real name – to highlight the traumatic childhood Tom experienced at the hands of his mother.

Tom’s mum suffered from a variety of mental illnesses including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anorexia, and depression.

His mother’s constant erratic behaviour included doing everything twice, banning Tom’s school items from the house, and strict routines including only allowing two people downstairs at any time.

“She was not violent all the time, but breaking her routine would push her into violent outburst,” said Tom.

Fixer Kyle hopes the film they are creating will make other young people and health professionals alike aware of the effects of abuse during childhood.

“We both wanted to become Fixers to show the lifestyle Tom had experienced as a child and to try and stop it happening again.

"We hope to appeal to mental health professionals to show them what can go on behind closed doors and give them a greater understanding through Tom's experiences."
