Addressing Alcohol Addiction

Growing up affected by her mum’s alcohol addiction, ‘Daisy’ is sending a sobering message to other binge drinking parents, urging them to seek help to prevent families from being torn apart.

The Hampshire Fixer, whose real name has not been used, wants her campaign to show the emotional impact of an adult’s alcohol dependency on their children.

‘My project is about this addiction and what it does to a person and the people close to them,’ explains 18-year-old Daisy.

‘I didn’t want to tell anyone about my mum because I didn’t want her to get into trouble and I didn’t want to be taken away from her.

‘I want to show that it can ruin lives – but also that there is help out there.

'I wish I’d known that a long time ago.’

With Fixers, Daisy has helped create a film to raise awareness of the devastating effects of a parent’s alcohol misuse.

Actors play a mother and daughter, addressing the issue from different perspectives.

After a powerful twist, the film ends with the message: ‘Put your family back together. Make the call.’

‘I hope that my film will raise awareness that this is an illness and that help is available, both for the person with the problem and their family,’ Daisy says.

‘My mum’s addiction ruined our relationship but she’s been alcohol-free for about a year and a half and I’m starting to trust her again.

‘We are now friends as well as mum and daughter.’

Daisy, who has also shared her story on ITV News, hopes to distribute her film to treatment centres so it can be shown to those in recovery.

‘I hope my project will inspire people to stop drinking,’ she adds.

‘I’d also like children and teenagers, who are going through what I went through, to see that they’re not alone.’
