Campaign: | Give LGBT support |
Through school, I was bullied over my sexuality, both inside and outside of the classroom.
The bullying took its toll on me, and I began to behave anti-socially. There was just so little support available, and this meant I had to struggle on my own. I also became scared of seeking support after a while in case people found out and escalated the bullying.
I realised there was not much LGBT support, and that is something I hope to change.
The struggles members of the LGBT community face can lead to serious issues at the time or later in life, and from personal experience I realised that if the support was available, further issues could be eradicated before they become any larger or lead to worse things.
I’m producing a series of workshops with Fixers to provide support for the LGBT community, covering issues from bullying to ‘coming out’ to your family.
I hope to make sure that young LGBT people do not have to go through things that I, or others in a similar situation, have had to go through.
Here is the list of Fixers who helped me with my Fixers project:

My project has received much support from a variety of institutions, including the Youth and Community Work Programme from the University of Wales, Newport, where I currently study.
I have also received support from people on the Youth and Community work course at the University of Wales, Stonewall Cymru, Torfaen Youth Service, and CCBC Youth Service
Since my Fixers project began I have held a workshop to offer support for people in the LGBT community. Here was some of the feedback from the first workshop:
'It’s nice to know there’s a support network for people of LGBT'.
'Well presented, plenty of information, very professional'.
'Informative in areas I am normally scared to ask about'.
'It was so informative, fun, brilliant. Can’t wait to do it again'.
28th February 2013
I met with assembly member for Newport West, Rosemary Butler, and Shadow Minister for Equality South Wales East, Mohammad Asghar (pictured below) who have pledged their support for my project.
I have also been awarded £2500 of funding by 'O2 Think Bigger' to continue my work with the PRYDE campaign.
