Campaign: To encourage more disabled people to take part in sport

I was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when I was five-years-old.

 

It leads to gradual muscle weakness and has meant I’ve been in a wheelchair fulltime since aged 19.

 

Now I can’t do even the simplest of tasks without help – like lifting a drink to my mouth.

 

At school I always got picked last for teams, and sat on the side lines on sports day. I never thought I’d ever be able to take part in sport.

 

Everything changed when I discovered powerchair football. It uses a special powered wheelchair that means even those with the most profound disabilities are able to take part. It’s a fast-paced game and it’s an amazing feeling to be part of a team and score winning goals.

 

I think many disabled people write themselves off from sport, and I want to let them know of the opportunities like powerchair football, and encourage them to give them a go.
