Campaign: To encourage men on the receiving end of domestic abuse to seek help

Neither partner in a relationship should have to experience domestic abuse – that’s something myself, fellow Fixer Danny Scott and the rest of our team feel strongly about.

But often people assume that domestic violence is something that only happens to women, while men on the receiving end of abusive behaviour can be overlooked.

With Fixers, we’re creating a film to show that this is an issue that can affect both sexes.

We hope it will help men spot when they’re experiencing abuse and encourage them to seek help.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Youth Social Action Fund

My Fixers project is supported by the Cabinet Office’s Youth Social Action Fund.

As part of the Cabinet Office initiative ‘Step Up to Serve’, which is spearheaded by HRH the Prince of Wales, Fixers is working in partnership with the Youth Social Action Fund (YSAF) to offer the Fixer experience specifically to young people aged between 16 and 20 in Birmingham and parts of Kent.

November 2014

I was invited to meet the Minister of Civil Society, Rob Wilson, at a ministerial visit in Maidstone at Cornwallis Academy, where we spoke about the Youth Social Action Fund projects going on in Kent.

It was great to tell the Minister about my Fix, who I felt really listened to what I had say.

October 2014
A link to our Fixers film was featured in the main banner of the Domestic Abuse Support in Kent website, and was also sent out in their October newsletter. They provide advice and information on services for victims, friends & family, and perpetrators of domestic abuse.

September 2014

A story about our campaign was featured in the Folkestone Herald.
