Having self-harmed in the past, I’m aware that there are a great number of myths surrounding the topic.
I’ve known it to be described as attention-seeking and an attempt at suicide, while others incorrectly believe it’s uncommon.
In fact, it’s thought around 10% of young people may try to hurt themselves deliberately, and it’s my aim to make sure more of them are getting support.
With Fixers, I want to help teachers at secondary schools and colleges better understand self-harm, so they can spot the signs and offer assistance when it’s needed.
