Campaign: To encourage support for LGBT students in schools

I feel that my school life suffered because of homophobic bullying.

Because of the abuse I was receiving, I’d get into fights constantly because I felt I was being victimised for who I was.

With Fixers, my team and I helped create interactive postcards to highlight how anti-LGBT abuse can deeply impact an individual.

Offensive words are stuck across photographs of young people, but once the word is peeled back, it reveals the deep and hidden scars homophobic bullying causes.

I want people to see the resource and understand that words can be just as harmful as actions.

My campaign will hopefully inspire schools to tackle this issue and help people understand what it's like to bullied and discriminated on the basis of your sexual orientation.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

In my broadcast piece, Diversity Officer for the Devon and Cornwall Police Toby Best discussed the increase of hate crimes in the area and the effect it can have on young people.

Here is some of the feedback we have received for our Fixers postcards:

'I think it's good as it shows how words hurt and how they can have a physical effect on someone.'

'I think that the postcards are a good way to get the message across that homophobic bulling isn't okay and that it should be taken seriously.'

'I believe that the postcards are a great way to get the message across of how damaging homophobic bully can be and how much of an impact it has on a person.'
