Campaign: To show people how to react when someone is having an epileptic seizure

Knowing what to do when someone is having an epileptic seizure can make a huge difference.

Doing the wrong thing can cause long-term damage, while doing the right thing can prevent injury.

However, people shouldn’t be afraid if they find themselves in this situation. It is my aim to give them the information they need to remain calm and focused.

With the help of Fixers, I want to raise awareness of epilepsy and the correct actions to take when someone is having a seizure.

I hope my campaign shows others how they should react, so that young people with epilepsy can get help and support when they need it.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Sanctuary Housing

Sanctuary is the UK’s leading provider of care, housing and community services.

The not-for-profit organisation is backing this campaign and working in partnership with Fixers to help support young people across the country address the issues they want to fix.

With over 94,000 units of accommodation across England and Scotland, Sanctuary believe that building strong communities and inspiring people to make a real difference is as important as providing them with a home.

Here is some of the great feedback my Fixers film, which raises awareness of epileptic seizures, has received so far!

‘Thank you for making such an important video of how to assess this situation coming from a person who has tonic colonic seizures.’

I have seizures and this is the first time I've seen a seizure in action. This kind of info needs to be spread to people so they know what to do when someone has a seizure.’

‘Great film, and about time there was a film like this without all the medical mumbo-jumbo that we medics talk without realising that normal people have not got a clue what we are going on about.’

‘This is a really helpful, brilliant video!’

Digital Mums tweeted: ‘Well done guys for making this video. It's definitely needed - many don't know what to do and it can be a scary situation.’

Safeaid Services tweeted: ‘Great video! Hope you don't mind us showing it to candidates on our first aid courses.’

News of my campaign appeared in the Haringey Independent. Click on the image below to read the article.

My film was also featured on the Epilepsy Action website and even caught the attention of Eastenders actress Maddy Hill on Twitter - whose character Nancy Carter suffers from the condition.
