Age: 17
Year of the Fix: 2014
Location: Peterborough
Campaign: To encourage young cancer patients to stay positive

Just after I turned 16, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

It was a shock and you do automatically think the worst, but I was able to overcome that and start to focus on what the doctors could do to help.

Now, I’d like to inspire others with life-threatening illnesses to find their inner strength and stay positive.

I don’t want people to feel afraid of the word cancer.

When I went through chemo, I concentrated on the idea of a superhero and the power needed to beat my illness.

With Fixers I’ve developed this idea into an animated film to encourage others, like me, never to give up.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Jessica Watson
Harry Wardell
Curtis Palmer

Nepenthe Studios
David 'Spike' Sandbach, Owner and Technician at Nepenthe Studios, supports my project. He helped record the voiceover for my Fixers film.

Dr Kanchan Rege, Peterborough City Hospital
Dr Kanchan Rege and the team at the Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust support my Fixers project. Dr Rege agreed to be interviewed to appear in my broadcast film.

June 2014

The Peterborough Telegraph and the Newmarket Journal published stories about my Fixers campaign.

March 2014
My Fixers film is finished! It’s been described by those who have seen it as ‘brilliant’ and ‘inspiring’.

I’ve also received the following positive feedback.

Mirza Beg: ‘Ben, you are a positive role model to all the young people with cancer around the world. You have proved that even one person can make a difference. May you always shine like the star that you are and let your light encourage others.’
