School life can be difficult if you have autism. For some of us it was a lonely, stressful time, where we felt misunderstood.
Sometimes we felt our behaviour was mistaken for us being disruptive and we often found ourselves in detention.
We believe more could be done to help educate teachers about autism and how best to accommodate autistic pupils in the classroom.
With the help of Fixers we’ve created a presentation to be delivered to teachers on staff training days.
We hope to use it to explain what autism is, how teaching could be adapted for autistic students, and how autistic pupils can be helped to prepare for life after school.
