Year of the Fix: 2014
Location: Redcar, North Yorkshire
Campaign: To raise awareness about domestic abuse

Although domestic abuse is a very sensitive issue, we feel it should be discussed more openly.

Whenever anybody does talk about it, some people automatically assume it’s a male abuser and female victim.

But in actual fact, domestic abuse can come in different guises.

While we don’t have any personal experience of it, we know it’s happened to friends of ours and are worried it’s overlooked.

For this reason, we’re working with Fixers to show it can happen in all walks of life and there is help available.

We hope our campaign will stop people living under the shadow of domestic abuse.

I would like to say a special thank you to Fixers Anton Cooper and Rebecca Ballinger for helping me with this Fix.

Julia Sinclair-Ray, Foundation Abuse & Domestic Violence Service

April 2014

People have responded to my campaign in a really encouraging way. You can read what people have said below.

Gill Syer, Lancashire Police:

'These posters are great. I love the Grand Theft Auto style design it really appeals to young people. It's a good way of getting the message out to that audience. We will certainly circulate some of these.'

Caitlin:

'I like them, it's a good idea. You hear more and more about domestic violence these days so it's good that someone is doing something about it.'

Jack:

'I really like the design, it's eye-catching and it would draw young people in to have a proper look at it.'

Ricky:

'Well done Jack!'

Judith:

'I couldn't be more proud of my son than I am right now. Appearing on national TV and standing up for such a worthwhile cause.'

Joe:
'I am very proud of everyone who worked on this project. You should all be very proud of yourselves.'
