Our campaign has been successful!
After we lobbied Stagecoach South West to cut the cost of travel for young people aged 18 and under who are in full-time education, they’ve introduced a new season ticket – the Torbay Termrider. Click here to read all about it and find out more about our campaign.
On Wednesday 19th March an official launch event for the initiative took place at Torquay Town Hall. Some of our group attended and met with the Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, Michael Watson, and local Mayor, Gordon Oliver.

My team and I attended a meeting with representatives from Stagecoach including the Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, Michael Watson.
Fixers meet with Stagecoach staff
Back row (L-R): Michael Watson (MD, Stagecoach) Helen Scholes (Marketing Manager, Stagecoach) Louise Simpson (Operations Manager Torbay, Stagecoach) Fixers Cai Evans and Theodore Law.
Front row (L-R): Fixers Isaac Frewin, Hannah Grimes, Erin Lynch, Rhiane Winter and Oscar Law.
We took the opportunity to have our say on the cost of bus travel for young people in the Torbay area and told them we think it’s too expensive.
The Stagecoach staff listened to our opinions and said they’ll look at making a small change to help young people when they review their budget this spring.
We received the following feedback after our meeting:
Michael Watson, Managing Director at Stagecoach South West: 'Meeting the Fixers and Torbay Youth Parliament was a pleasure - it was informative, interesting and hopefully just the start of an ongoing relationship.
'I certainly came away with a better understanding of their needs when it comes to bus travel. We will now be exploring a range of options on what could be done to support young people travelling on our buses and I'm looking forward to our next meeting when we can discuss these further.'
Helen Scholes, Marketing Manager at Stagecoach South West: 'It was a real pleasure to meet you, the Youth Parliament and the other Fixers.
'Their levels of articulation and enthusiasm for the subject were truly impressive and have given us lots to think about as we move closer to finalising our plans for the new financial year.'
We are planning to have another meeting with the company on Wednesday 26th February.
