It was June 2011 when I lost my youngest brother Conor in a road traffic accident when he was just 16 years old.
He came off his moped and suffered extensive brain injuries. His helmet wasn’t clipped up. After an operation and five days in intensive care, Conor lost his life.
My family and I run a campaign called ‘Clip Up For Conor.’ We have a huge passion for saving young lives on our roads as it’s something very close to our hearts.
I hope that through campaigns like ‘Clip Up For Conor’ and the Fixers Road Savvy campaign that young people become more aware of peer pressure and the dangers of our roads. They need more education in order to keep themselves safe and realise they are not invincible.
In the long-term, I would like to see the length of time it takes to pass a moped test increased and a greater awareness of helmet safety.
September 2013
I attended the Fixers Road Savvy Forum in London.
It brought together Fixers, politicians, road safety experts and representatives from the emergency services.
Transport Minister Stephen Hammond and former footballer and TV presenter Gary Lineker were among those there.
The day was split into two sessions. In the morning I took part in a workshop, discussing the key road safety issues facing young people today.
In the afternoon, a forum was held where politicians and road safety professionals were given the chance to put questions to a panel of Fixers.
Conclusions from the event are going to be presented to the Department for Transport in a ‘Fixers Green Paper’ as a contribution to the Government’s forthcoming Road Safety Green Paper.
