Sami

Name: Sami Cullen
Age: 24
Year of the Fix: 2013
Location: Carrickfergus
Campaign: Suicide Prevention

When my brother took his own life six years ago it was incredibly hard to deal with, for me and the whole family.

Now, I want to raise awareness of suicide and the help available in the Carrick area because this is something that I feel has a tremendous effect on local young people.

I want to make sure that young people know where they can turn for help when they are feeling low.

It can be a bit demoralising to hear about all the tragedies, but I think the only way to stop them happening is to raise awareness, and let people know that there is help out there for them.

September 2013

My campaign was featured in the Carrickfergus Times. Click here to read the full article.

My billboard is also gaining attention from passers-by and making an impact.

Niki Carson,YMCA in Carrickfergus:

'I walk past that billboard on my way to work, the picture of Carrick Castle grabs your attention, then you see what the billboard is all about. It's really well done and it really makes you think. It's good to know that there is support out there on such a serious issue.'

Annette Gibney, Belfast HSC Trust:

'Great job. Awareness of suicide prevention is so important nowadays.'

Faye Kerr:

'Amazng. No one raises enough awareness about this issue. Well done.'

Mima Dodds:

'Brilliant Sami, well done!'

Iris McIlroy Moore:

What a fantastic girl!
