Lowri

Name: Lowri Suter
Age: 20
Year of the Fix: 2013
Location: Ebbw Vale
Campaign: Raising Community Spirit

I think my town has had it's fair share of problems with unemployment and other social issues.

But my goal is to make my community a better place to live and make people feel proud of where they're from.

I feel there is a lot of negativity in Ebbw Vale so with the help of Fixers we’ve organised a street event called ‘Show Your Teeth in Town’, where people are encouraged to come together and be happy.

I want to tell people that everything isn’t bad in Ebbw Vale and to restore some pride for where we are from.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my project:

Emily Wilmot

Kristy Wilmot

Hayley Baker

Thomas Winterson

Marcus Hawkins

Nerys Williams

These two organisations supported my Fixers project by helping me to put on the event:

Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations

September 2013

I hosted the main stage with another Fixer at the Breakin’ Out Festival in Bailey Park in Abergavenny for 8 hours on 7th September. There were 2000 young people there and it was great to get the crowd pumped and introduce a range of acts.

This month I have taken part in a Welsh Government consultation for young people held in Ebbw Vale on 4th September. I was asked to give my feedback and opinions on a new youth work strategy for Wales.

I have also received feedback following my ‘Show Your Teeth in Town’ event at the end of August. During the event, we asked people to think about things that make them smile and tell us what makes them happy. Here are some cheerful responses:

'All the people having a laugh today.'

'People running through town in funny clothes for a good cause.'

'Someone smiling back at you when you smile at them.'

'Community projects bringing people together - like today!'
