Campaign: Web support for young people with mental health issues

When I was 14 years old, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. It completely shocked me and the whole family, and I found it hard to cope.

Instead of talking about my feelings, I began to drink more than a teenager should at that age. Slowly I became more sad, down, and just felt worthless.

It took until my mum recovered before I was diagnosed with depression. But rather than turn to medication, I made changes to my lifestyle to try and pull myself out of the depression.

Thanks to support, I definitely feel myself again, but there were times I felt so alone. That is why with Fixers, my friends and I are creating a website which allows young people to share their experiences of mental health conditions, so they understand that there is support out there. It is just a case of being open about how you feel and what you need to get back on track.

Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:

Andrew Cooley
Georgina Glen
Jason Langford
Jessica Mescall
Kourtney Haw
Matthew Woodcock
Megan Hulme
Sam Slatersmith
Samuel Beagley

Mandy Kitsell, Relate UK

Mandy supported my Fix by providing us with important facts about teen depression for our broadcast film.
