I spent my teens in care at a variety of foster placements. But I never expected to become pregnant while I was in care.
In 2007, I became pregnant with my first daughter. Initially I was scared about how this would affect my life, whether I would get support, and how I would cope in care with a child on the way.
Having my first daughter changed my life forever and times could be tough. I was unsure what was going to happen. The choices I made definitely impacted my life.
What I am showing through my Fixers film is that every action has a consequence, and that the path you take in life can often be determined by the choices you make.
Here is a list of Fixers helping me with my Fix:
Jamie Hunt Hannah Mccoy Lauren Murray Tyler Taylor
Bournemouth Children's Services
The Council run Children's Services in Bournemouth are using my film to encourage young people to understand how their decisions impact on their lives.
EDAS Learning Support, Dorset
A group, which offers support to young adults, who may be dealing with issues including drink, drugs, and problems with their home life.
July 2014 I visited Poole High School along with fellow Fixers Jade Clement and Becky Hammerton to give a presentation to around 30 pupils.
We each spoke about our projects and showed our Fixers films, receiving positive feedback.
Jill Kennedy, Assistant Head of Enrichment and Extended Learning at the school, said:
‘This is what our students needed to hear and how better it coming from young people who have gone through these issues themselves.
‘Laura was great at explaining how hard it is to be a young parent.’
Mary-Anne White and Lucy Wills
Shak & Natasha
Me and my friends want young people to know that calories aren't the enemy!
