Campaign: | Encouraging people to reuse and recycle clothing |
Like many young people, I'm quite into fashion and have a lot of clothes which keep up with the latest trends.
And like many young people, I bought a lot of the clothes because they were cheap and thought I'd use them. So one day when I was clearing out my wardrobe, I decided that rather than throwing the clothes away I would organise an event where people can recycle their clothing.
So, with the help of my friend, Livvy, and Fixers, we organised a swap shop at my school. People who attended brought the clothes they no longer wanted and were able to swap them for the unwanted items that other young people had brought to the event.
Through the event, we tried to show what a waste simply throwing clothes away is, as there may still be a use for them beyond your wardrobe. Ultimately we hope that events like this can take place more often to change the way young people look at clothes, where they come from, and what happens to them after they are discarded.
Thanks to my friend Livvy Dimeck (16) who helped with this project, and with the broadcast piece.

We held our swap shop event at our school, St Cuthbert Mayne, in Torbay. The event was well attended by a variety of pupils, and many people went away with entirely new outfits.
Feedback from the event was great! Here are just some of the comments that were left about our project:
'So much fun, lush clothes too!'
'Such a good idea.'
'Saves spending money on new clothes!'
'It's fun, and great because you can socialise with everyone when you shop.'
