Campaign: | Raise awareness of borderline personality disorder |
When I was younger, I used to suffer from mood swings and had trouble making friends. But despite seeking medical help, it was just put down to my age – I was a teenager, so it was assumed it was puberty causing my troubles.
Yet as I got older, it became clear something was wrong. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with the condition which had been troubling me through my teens – a condition called Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
The condition is rare and affects only around 1% of people in the UK. Because of this, it is difficult to understand, and many people do not even know it exists.
That’s why I’m working with Fixers – to raise awareness of the condition through an e-booklet, to show people that this disorder does exist, and that while it is relatively unknown, the people with this condition can find support.

I met with my local MP Heidi Alexander to discuss my campaign and was later featured on her website, you can read the piece by clicking here.
I also received some great feedback from Ms Alexander which you can read below:
'Steph's work with Fixers to raise awareness of Borderline Personality Disorder is really important. Her e-booklet is very impressive. It deals with a complicated subject in an easily understandable way.
'Whilst BPD is rare, I'm sure the booklet will be a source of great help and support to young people across the UK who are struggling to make sense of their condition.'
An article about our meeting and my Fixers campaign was also featured in the News Shopper.
